GTIIT researcher recognized among world’s top peer reviewers

GTIIT's Associate Professor Ashok Patel has been recognized by Publons' Global Peer Review Awards 2019 as ranking among the top one per cent of peer reviewers in the "Agricultural Sciences" and "Cross-Field" categories of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI).

Launched in 2012 and joined by a quarter of a million researchers worldwide, Publons is one of the key tools of the Clarivate Analytics that allows academics to "track, verify, and showcase" their peer review and editorial contributions for academic journals.

Publons' annual global peer review awards debuted in 2016 to honor elite contributors who have demonstrated expert commitment to protecting the integrity and accuracy of scholarly publishing in the 22 ESI research categories.

Dr. Patel has covered more than 200 reviews for over 50 peer-reviewed journals in Agricultural (& Food) Sciences, Chemistry, and multi-disciplinary fields, most with impact factor five and above. The journals for which he serves as associate editor/editorial board member include, the Journal of American Oil Chemists' Society, Current Research in Food Science, Current Nutraceuticals, Frontiers, and Food Biophysics. As an expert in the field of Food Colloids, Dr. Patel is also a frequent reviewer of research project proposals funded by national agencies in such countries as the Netherlands, Israel and Canada. In recognition of his contributions and efforts, Dr. Patel has been credited as a top peer reviewer by Publons for the 4th year in a row.

In addition to the service it provides to the academic community, Dr. Patel sees reviewing "as an opportunity to get insight into the current and future trends in research. It allows me to know which research area is gaining popularity and, in a way, helps me shape the course of my own research."

This semester Dr. Patel will teach the GTIIT course on Food Analysis to BFE cohort 2017 students.
